For no particular reason, I want to say thank you to all my followers, fans, and friends for gassing me up and encouraging the reckless behavior that is my presence on Substack.

“So wait. There’s a turnip and an owl?”
“The owl is a neuroscientist, I think.”
“You mean he’s actually…?”
“An owl?…Oh! Right. Um, I’m not sure. He might just be really into neuroscience.”
“Why would a neuroscience…ah,…‘enthusiast’ pretend to be an owl?”
“Why would someone pretend to be a turnip?”
“Fair point. So what are you?”
“I’m a leaf…It’s probably best not to read too much into it.”
“No kidding, and the guy that posts pictures of empty parking lots?”
“…Well, no… they’re called ‘liminal spaces,’ and they’re not parking lots. They usually have like…It’s like an empty mall thing…It’s a…vibe.”
“Sure.”
“He writes good stuff too. Like he’s got this story about getting high off of alien souls.”
“So you all just write weird stuff at each other? While pretending to be plants, animals and root veggies?”
“Well, I mean yeah…kind of. There’s also social scientists, poets, horror novelists, theologists, scholars, fantasy and sci-fi writers, military veteran bloggers and culture commentators. There’s even rogue philosophers, musing about the destruction and rebirth of information systems and the impending death of common paradigms, even truth itself!”
“Uh huh, and the girl on shrooms, writing about weirdo rock stars.”
“I didn’t say she was on shrooms…I mean,…huh. I guess it’s never come up. Her story’s fun though.”
“So it’s like an ‘Island of Misfit Toys’ kinda thing y’all got goin.”
“I think of it more like ‘The Avengers’
“…come again.”
“Well, ‘The Avengers’ with better writing…Or maybe ‘The X-Men’ is more accurate. Not the movies. I mean like the classic books. The Chris Claremont era. Ya know he’s actually an accomplished novelist in his own righ— Hey! Where are you going?? I thought we were gonna share an Uber!”
Thank you all for being you : )

That was a fun read.
This was great. I recognize a bunch of the cool cats (and veggies, aliens, and other beings) that make this such a fun place. Way to go!
